Refreshing and fun Watermelon Star Fruit Sparklers served with a zesty Lime Yogurt Dip. Perfect for summer gatherings, these fruity skewers combine sweet watermelon stars and fresh blueberries with a creamy, tangy dip made from yogurt, honey, and lime.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 10 sparklers

Ingredients

Watermelon Star Sparklers

  • 3-4 round slices of seedless watermelon
  • 50 fresh blueberries (about 5 per skewer)
  • 1 star-shaped cookie cutter (about 3 inches wide)
  • 10 wooden skewers (6-inch) or as many as desired

Lime Yogurt Dip

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt (dairy-free as needed)
  • 1 tsp honey or agave
  • 1/4 – 1/2 tsp fresh lime zest
  • 1 tsp lime juice

Instructions

  1. Cut Watermelon into Slices: Use a sharp knife to cut the seedless watermelon width-wise into 3-4 round slices. Slice the watermelon about 1 inch thick, or to match the depth of your cookie cutter, so that the stars will be the right size and thickness.
  2. Cut Out Watermelon Stars: Place the star-shaped cookie cutter onto a watermelon slice and press down firmly using a cutting board or plate on top to punch out star shapes. Repeat until you have at least 10 watermelon stars, one for each skewer.
  3. Assemble the Sparklers: Take each wooden skewer and slide 4-5 fresh blueberries onto the pointed end, leaving about one inch of skewer empty at the top. Then add one watermelon star on top of the blueberries. Repeat with remaining skewers.
  4. Serve or Store: Serve the watermelon star sparklers immediately, or cover and chill them in the refrigerator until ready to serve to keep them fresh and cool.
  5. Prepare Lime Yogurt Dip: In a small bowl, whisk together the plain yogurt, honey or agave, fresh lime zest, and lime juice until well combined.
  6. Adjust Dip Flavors: Taste the yogurt dip and add extra honey, lime zest, or lime juice as desired to balance sweetness and tanginess.
  7. Serve the Dip: Serve the lime yogurt dip alongside the watermelon star sparklers chilled, or refrigerate covered until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • Use seedless watermelon for easier preparation and eating.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute plant-based yogurt.
  • Adjust the amount of lime zest and juice in the dip to your preference for tanginess.
  • These sparklers are best served fresh but can be refrigerated up to 4 hours before serving.
  • Use colorful wooden skewers or fun shapes for a kid-friendly presentation.
  • Ensure watermelon slices are firm and chilled for easier cutting and a refreshing taste.
