A refreshing and vibrant Sparkling Cara Cara Margarita combining the bright, sweet flavors of Cara Cara orange juice with classic tequila, lime, and a fizzy sparkling water finish for a perfect modern twist on the traditional margarita.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients

Liquids and Spirits

  • 2 ounces tequila blanco (Patron Silver recommended)
  • 1 ounce Cointreau (or triple sec as a substitute)
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 4 ounces Cara Cara orange juice (about two Cara Cara oranges)
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • splash sparkling water

For Serving and Garnish

  • ice cubes
  • crushed ice
  • lime wedge (for rimming the glass)
  • margarita salt (for rimming the glass)
  • sliced lime (for garnish)
  • sliced Cara Cara orange (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Juices: Juice the Cara Cara oranges and limes until you collect the needed amounts. If the juice is pulpy, strain it through a fine mesh strainer to achieve a smooth texture.
  2. Rim Glasses: Rub a lime wedge around the rims of your glasses. Then, invert the glasses and dip the rims into margarita salt to coat them evenly. Set these aside for serving.
  3. Mix Margarita: In a Boston shaker, combine the tequila blanco, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, Cara Cara orange juice, and simple syrup. Add ice cubes, secure the shaker lid, and shake vigorously until the mixture is very cold.
  4. Assemble and Garnish: Fill the prepared glasses with crushed ice. Strain and pour the margarita mixture over the ice. Add a splash of sparkling water to each glass for fizz. Garnish with slices of lime and Cara Cara orange. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use freshly squeezed juices rather than bottled orange or lime juice.
  • Adjust the simple syrup amount to your preference depending on the sweetness of the oranges and your taste.
  • You can substitute triple sec for Cointreau, but Cointreau provides a richer orange flavor.
  • Using crushed ice helps chill the drink quickly and enhances the presentation.
  • The sparkling water adds a refreshing effervescence but can be omitted for a stronger margarita.
