Ingredients
Seeds and Dry Ingredients
- ½ cup chia seeds
- ¼ cup sunflower seeds (raw and unsalted)
- ¼ cup pumpkin seeds (raw and unsalted)
- ¼ cup sesame seeds (white or black)
- ¼ cup ground flaxseeds (flax meal)
- 3 tablespoons hemp seeds (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt (or sea salt)
Wet Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (162°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
- Combine Seeds and Salt: In a large mixing bowl, add the chia seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, ground flaxseeds, hemp seeds (if using), and Kosher salt. Stir all the dry ingredients thoroughly to evenly distribute the salt and seeds.
- Add Olive Oil and Water: Pour the olive oil and water into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until well combined. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes so the chia and flaxseeds absorb the water and create a gel-like thickened consistency. Avoid waiting longer than 7-8 minutes to prevent overly thick batter.
- Spread the Mixture: Transfer the seed mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Use an offset spatula, large spoon, or place another piece of parchment paper on top and spread the mixture evenly and thinly across the sheet using your hands or a rolling pin. Aim for uniform thickness to ensure even baking.
- Bake the Crackers: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 55 minutes. Bake until the edges of the crackers turn a light golden brown, indicating crispiness. Remove from the oven once done.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the seed crackers to cool completely on the baking sheet to let them firm up and become crunchy. Once cooled, break or cut into pieces and serve as a healthy snack or appetizer.
Notes
- Hemp seeds are optional but add extra nutrition and texture.
- Ensure not to over-thicken the mixture to avoid dense crackers.
- Store cooled crackers in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
- Customize by adding herbs or spices like rosemary, garlic powder, or chili flakes.
