Ingredients
Black Beans
- 2 cups black beans, rinsed and drained (cooked from dry or canned beans)
Seasoning
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ tablespoon olive oil
- Salt, to taste (optional)
- Black pepper, to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven or air fryer. For oven roasting, preheat to 400°F (200°C). For air frying, preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the beans. Stir salt and pepper (if using) into the drained black beans. Mix in the olive oil, then sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the beans and stir to coat evenly.
- Arrange the beans. For the oven method, spread the beans in a single even layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. It’s okay if the beans touch. For the air fryer, spread the beans out on the hot air fryer basket or tray, placing the tray in the top rack if using an air fryer oven.
- Cook the beans. In the oven, bake for 35-40 minutes, flipping and stirring halfway through. When stirring, push beans from the edges to the center and beans from the center to the edges for even cooking. In the air fryer, cook for 10 minutes, then flip and reposition beans similarly and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Optional extra crisping for air fryer. If you prefer crispier beans, stir and flip them again and air fry for a final 5 minutes.
- Cool and serve. Remove the beans from heat and allow them to cool to room temperature before eating. Enjoy the crispy outside with soft insides!
Notes
- Both cooked from dry or canned black beans can be used—just be sure to drain and rinse canned beans well.
- The Parmesan cheese adds a nice crispy coating and flavor; you can omit it for a dairy-free option.
- Salt and pepper are optional and can be adjusted based on your taste.
- The flipping and stirring during cooking ensure even roasting and crisping.
- Cooling the beans helps them firm up and enhances the texture.
