  • Total Time: 50-60 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

For the Brownies:

  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk chocolate M&M candies

For the Frosting:

  • ¼ cup milk chocolate chips, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons milk (more if needed, up to 4 tablespoons)
  • ½ cup milk chocolate M&M candies (or more if desired, up to 1 cup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 325°F. Line an 8-inch pan with parchment paper and spray with non-stick spray; set aside.
  2. Melt Butter and Chocolate: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate together, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Add Sugar and Eggs: Stir in the granulated sugar until combined, then add the lightly beaten eggs and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
  4. Mix Dry Ingredients and M&Ms: Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips, flour, and salt until well blended. Gently fold in ½ cup of the milk chocolate M&M candies.
  5. Pour Batter and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing out the top. Bake for 35-45 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool on a rack.
  6. Prepare Frosting – Melt Chocolate: Melt the ¼ cup milk chocolate chips and let cool significantly before use.
  7. Make Frosting Base: In a bowl, cream together 1 cup butter and 3 cups confectioners’ sugar on low speed, gradually increasing speed; beat for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  8. Add Cocoa and Melted Chocolate: Mix in 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder and the cooled melted chocolate until fully combined, about 1 minute.
  9. Finish Frosting: Add ½ teaspoon almond extract and 2 tablespoons milk; continue mixing until smooth. Add additional milk 1-2 tablespoons if frosting is too thick.
  10. Frost Brownies and Decorate: Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies evenly. Sprinkle the remaining M&M candies on top as desired.
  11. Serve: Cut into squares and serve with a big, M&M-loving smile!

Notes

  • Use parchment paper and non-stick spray to ensure easy removal of brownies from pan.
  • The frosting consistency can be adjusted by adding more milk as needed.
  • Baking time can vary; check brownies with a toothpick starting at 35 minutes.
  • You can decorate with as many or as few M&Ms as you like on top.
  • Allow brownies to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
