Ingredients
Marinade Ingredients
- ⅓ cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- ½ lemon, juiced
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
Main Ingredient
- 1.5-2 pounds London broil steak
Instructions
- Make the Marinade: In a plastic zipper bag, add all marinade ingredients — soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Seal the bag and shake well to combine all components thoroughly.
- Marinate the Steak: Place the London broil steak inside the marinade-filled bag. Seal tightly and massage the marinade evenly around the meat. Refrigerate the steak for 2-3 hours or up to overnight for deeper flavor and tenderness.
- Prepare Steak for Cooking: Remove the steak from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature, ensuring even cooking.
- Preheat and Prepare Marinade Sauce: Transfer the steak to a cast iron skillet or an oven-safe baking dish. Pour the leftover marinade into a small saucepan and simmer on low heat until it thickens, which will later be served as a sauce over the cooked beef.
- Broil the Steak: Place the skillet or baking dish under the broiler. Cook the steak for 5-6 minutes on one side, then flip and broil for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 130-135°F for medium rare.
- Rest and Serve: Let the steak rest for 10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Thinly slice against the grain and serve with the thickened marinade sauce poured over the meat for extra flavor.
Notes
- Marinating overnight intensifies flavor and tenderizes the beef more effectively.
- Use a meat thermometer to achieve your preferred doneness reliably.
- Allowing the steak to come to room temperature before cooking ensures even heat distribution.
- The marinade can be simmered and used as a sauce or reserved as a dipping sauce on the side.
- For a leaner option, trim excess fat from the London broil before marinating.
