Ingredients
For the Burgers
- 2 lbs. ground beef
- 2 tbsp Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ Sauce
- 2 tbsp mayo
- 1 1/2 tbsp seasoned salt (divided)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 8 slices cheddar cheese
For Assembly
- 8 hamburger buns
- 16 frozen onion rings (cooked according to package instructions)
- Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ Sauce (additional for topping)
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced tomato
Instructions
- Preheat the grill: Heat your grill to medium-high. Brush the grates and lightly oil them to prevent the burgers from sticking during cooking.
- Prepare the burger mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, 2 tablespoons of Honey BBQ Sauce, mayo, 1 tablespoon of seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated. Then shape the mixture into 8 equal round patties.
- Create indentations and season: Press a shallow indentation into the center of each patty with your thumb or finger to ensure even cooking. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of seasoned salt evenly over the patties.
- Grill the burgers: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last moments of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.
- Cook onion rings: Meanwhile, cook the frozen onion rings according to the package instructions until crispy.
- Assemble the burgers: On each hamburger bun bottom, layer lettuce and sliced tomato, followed by the cheesy burger patty. Drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons of Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ Sauce over the patty, then add two crispy onion rings. Top with the upper bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- Pressing an indentation in the patties helps prevent the burgers from puffing up and promotes even cooking.
- Adjust the amount of BBQ sauce based on your preferred sweetness and tang.
- Feel free to substitute beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, but cooking times and doneness should be monitored closely.
- For added smoky flavor, consider adding smoked paprika or chipotle powder to the burger mix.
- Ensure onion rings are fully cooked and crispy before adding to the burger for best texture contrast.
