Ingredients
Ingredients
- 3 cups shelled raw California pistachios
- 4 tablespoons neutral oil (almond, peanut, or pistachio oil)
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 to 1/2 tablespoon honey (or more, if desired)
Instructions
- Preheat and Toast Pistachios: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Spread the shelled raw pistachios evenly on a baking sheet. Bake for 5 to 8 minutes until they become fragrant but are not browned. This step enhances the nutty flavor of the pistachios. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the nuts to cool slightly.
- Process Pistachios to Powder: Transfer the warmed pistachios to a food processor or blender. Blend or process the nuts until they break down into a fine powder. If using a blender, use the tamper to keep the pistachios moving and evenly chopped.
- Blend Until Creamy: Continue processing the pistachios for about 3 minutes, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides of the bowl or blender. Gradually add in the neutral oil and continue processing until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy in texture.
- Season and Store: Add a pinch or two of salt to the pistachio butter and pulse once or twice to combine. If desired, stir in honey to sweeten the butter. Transfer the pistachio butter to an airtight jar or container for storage.
Notes
- Storage: Store your homemade pistachio butter in an airtight container. It can be kept at room temperature for a few weeks or refrigerated for up to a month to maintain freshness.
- Freezing: For longer storage, you can freeze the pistachio butter. Thaw before use and stir well to restore creamy consistency.
- Oil Options: Use neutral oils like almond, peanut, or pistachio oil to preserve the natural flavor of the pistachios without overpowering them.
- Sweetener Variations: Honey adds a gentle sweetness, but you can adjust the amount or use alternatives such as maple syrup or agave nectar as preferred.
