Ghost Brownies are spooky, fun Halloween treats featuring moist, chocolaty brownie squares topped with fluffy marshmallows covered in smooth white frosting and decorated with adorable ghost faces made with black edible markers or gel. Perfect for parties or festive celebrations, these ooey-gooey brownies bring a playful, delicious twist to classic brownies that will delight kids and adults alike.

  • Total Time: 40-45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 brownies

Ingredients

Brownies

  • 1 box (1 lb. 2.4 ounces) Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix or your favorite homemade brownie recipe ingredients (water, vegetable oil, and egg as called for on box) OR 16 store-bought premade brownies

Topping

  • 1 container (16 ounces) white frosting
  • 16 large marshmallows
  • 1 black edible marker OR black decorating gel

Instructions

  1. Bake Brownies: Prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions or use homemade brownies. Bake until fully cooked, then allow them to cool completely before cutting into 16 equal squares.
  2. Add Marshmallows: Place one large marshmallow on top of each brownie square, evenly distributing them to create the base for your ghost decoration.
  3. Prepare Frosting: Transfer the white frosting into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 10 to 12 seconds, just enough to soften it. Stir well to ensure smooth consistency, then spread enough frosting over each marshmallow to cover it fully. Allow the frosting to cool and set for about 2 minutes.
  4. Decorate Ghost Faces: Using a black edible marker or black decorating gel, draw two circles for eyes and one circle for the mouth on each marshmallow to create cute ghost faces. If using gel, pipe small dots and a circle carefully. Serve immediately or store until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • You can substitute with premade brownies to save time.
  • Make sure brownies are completely cooled before adding marshmallows to prevent melting.
  • Slight warming of frosting makes it easier to spread smoothly over marshmallows.
  • Use edible markers or decorating gel labeled safe for food to ensure best results and safety.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to 2 days.
