Beans & Seasoning
- 2 cans of northern beans, drained
- 1 packet of French Onion Dip mix
- ½ tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
Vegetables & Flavorings
- 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Oils
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Heat the Oil: In a skillet over medium heat, pour 1 tablespoon of olive oil and warm it for about 1 minute to prepare for caramelizing the onions and garlic.
- Cook Onions and Garlic: Add the thinly sliced onions and 5 cloves of garlic to the skillet. Let them cook undisturbed for 3 minutes to start softening.
- Season and Continue Cooking: Gently stir the onions and garlic, then add salt, pepper, and sugar. Keep stirring occasionally and cook for about 15 minutes until the onions are golden brown and caramelized.
- Add Balsamic Vinegar: Pour in 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and stir to deglaze the pan and incorporate deep flavor into the onions.
- Blend Ingredients: Transfer the caramelized onions, garlic, balsamic mixture, drained northern beans, and French Onion Dip mix into a food processor.
- Process Until Smooth: Blend all ingredients for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dip and add additional salt or balsamic vinegar as desired to enhance flavor.
- Serve: Transfer the dip to a bowl and serve with pita chips or your preferred dipping choice.
