Ingredients
Truffle Base
- 1 package (36 cookies, 530g) Oreo cookies
- 8 Oz cream cheese, brick-style (not the spread)
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Coating
- 10 Oz (284g) Ghirardelli melting wafers (dark, milk, or white chocolate)
Instructions
- Crush the Oreos: Place the Oreo cookies into a food processor and pulse until they become fine crumbs, ensuring no large pieces are left for a smooth mixture.
- Mix cream cheese and crumbs: Using a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment or a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese on medium-high speed for about 4 minutes until smooth and creamy. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the Oreo crumbs for garnishing. Add the remaining Oreo crumbs to the cream cheese along with the vanilla extract, then mix on low speed until well combined, about 1 minute.
- Form truffle balls: Line a cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Using a tablespoon, scoop the Oreo mixture and roll it into 1-inch balls. Place the balls evenly spaced on the lined cookie sheet. Once finished, chill the balls in the freezer for at least 15 minutes to firm them up.
- Melt the chocolate coating: Place the Ghirardelli melting wafers in a medium microwave-safe bowl and melt according to the package instructions, stirring until smooth and creamy.
- Coat the truffles: Remove the chilled Oreo balls from the freezer. Dip a few at a time into the melted chocolate using a fork, rolling them around to fully coat. Lift them out carefully with the fork and place them back onto the lined cookie sheet. While the chocolate is still wet, garnish with the reserved Oreo crumbs or sprinkles for extra texture and decoration.
- Set and store: Allow the chocolate coating to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Serve immediately or store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Notes
- You can use any type of chocolate melting wafers: dark, milk, or white chocolate, depending on your flavor preference.
- Make sure to chill the truffle balls before dipping to ensure the chocolate coating sets nicely.
- For easier rolling and cleaner hands, slightly wet or grease your palms before forming the balls.
- Store leftovers refrigerated and allow to come to room temperature before serving for best texture and flavor.
- These truffles make a great gift or party treat and can be decorated with sprinkles, crushed nuts, or additional cookie crumbs.
