Ingredients
Biscuit Dough and Coating
- 3 cans refrigerated buttermilk biscuit dough (16 ounces each)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
Syrup
- ¾ cup heavy cream
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup lightly packed light brown sugar
- Pinch of fine sea salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spray a 10-cup or 12-cup bundt pan generously with nonstick cooking spray and set it aside.
- Cut biscuit dough: Open the cans of refrigerated biscuits and use a sharp knife to cut each biscuit into quarters, creating small dough pieces.
- Coat dough pieces: In a gallon-size zip-top bag, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon by shaking. Add the biscuit quarters to the bag in batches if needed, then shake thoroughly to coat each piece evenly with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Arrange dough in pan and add cream: Transfer the coated biscuit pieces evenly into the prepared bundt pan. Slowly pour the heavy cream over the dough pieces and let it rest for at least 5 minutes to soak in.
- Make the syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the unsalted butter and light brown sugar over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the butter melts and the mixture begins to bubble around the edges. Remove from heat, then stir in the pinch of sea salt and vanilla extract.
- Drizzle syrup: Slowly drizzle the warm syrup evenly over the biscuit pieces in the bundt pan.
- Bake the monkey bread: Place the bundt pan on a rimmed baking sheet to catch any spills. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the biscuit pieces reaches at least 200°F on an instant-read thermometer, and the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
- Rest and serve: Let the monkey bread rest for 5 to 10 minutes after baking. Carefully invert the bundt pan onto a serving platter to release the bread. Serve warm and enjoy pulling apart the gooey, cinnamon-sugar coated pieces.
Notes
- Using refrigerated biscuit dough simplifies preparation, but you can make your own biscuit dough if preferred.
- Ensure the bundt pan is properly sprayed to prevent sticking and preserve the bread’s shape.
- The rest time after adding the cream allows the dough to absorb moisture for a tender texture.
- Using an instant-read thermometer helps confirm the bread is baked all the way through.
- Serving the monkey bread warm enhances its gooey, sticky texture and flavor.
