This Cinnamon Swirl Bread is a simple yet decadent loaf perfect for holiday breakfasts, special brunches, or a grab-and-go snack. Featuring a tender sour cream-based batter layered with a crunchy cinnamon pecan streusel, it offers a delightful balance of soft bread and sweet, nutty swirls that create a festive treat everyone will love.

  • Total Time: 3 hours 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 slices

Ingredients

Cinnamon Streusel:

  • 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup finely chopped pecans

Bread Batter:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups (12 ounces) sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 325°F. Grease a large 9 x 5-inch loaf pan, or two smaller loaf pans, and set aside.
  2. Make Cinnamon Streusel: In a small bowl, whisk together cinnamon, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and pecans until combined. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: Using an electric mixer, cream the butter and granulated sugar on medium-high speed for about 2 minutes until light and fluffy.
  4. Add Eggs: Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to incorporate fully.
  5. Add Sour Cream and Vanilla: Mix in the sour cream and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth.
  6. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Mix Dry into Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients on low mixer speed. Mix just until combined; avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  8. Layer Batter and Streusel: Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared loaf pan(s). Sprinkle half of the cinnamon streusel mixture over the batter. Spread the remaining batter over the streusel layer, then top with the remaining streusel.
  9. Bake: Bake the bread for 1 hour if using a single large loaf pan, or start checking at 45 minutes if using two smaller pans. Insert a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean when done. Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly.
  10. Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Then remove from the pan and cool completely before slicing to prevent crumbling.

Notes

  • Use a large 9 x 5-inch loaf pan or two smaller pans; smaller pans reduce baking time.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep the loaf soft and moist.
  • Baking time may vary by pan type: dark metal pans bake faster than glass or ceramic.
  • Cool bread completely before slicing to maintain clean slices and preserve the cinnamon crunch topping.
  • A long serrated knife is ideal for slicing through the streusel topping.
