This Crockpot Baked Beans recipe is a hearty and flavorful dish perfect for potlucks, barbecues, or family dinners. Combining smoky bacon, sweet barbecue sauce, and tangy mustard, these beans cook slowly to develop rich, comforting flavors with minimal effort.

  • Total Time: 5 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients

Meat

  • 8 oz. bacon (half of a 16 oz. package)

Main Ingredients

  • 56 oz. Homestyle Bush’s Baked Beans (or original)
  • 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings (optional)
  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bacon: Slice the raw bacon into 1/2 inch pieces. Cook on the stovetop in a skillet until halfway browned, then drain excess fat. This step ensures the beans won’t be greasy and adds a smoky flavor.
  2. Combine ingredients: Add the partially cooked bacon to the slow cooker along with the baked beans, bacon drippings (if using), diced yellow onion, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir everything together thoroughly to blend flavors.
  3. Set the slow cooker: Place the lid on the slow cooker to seal in moisture and heat.
  4. Cook the beans: Cook on LOW for 5 hours or HIGH for 3.5 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the beans to become tender.
  5. Finish and serve: After cooking, stir the baked beans well before serving. Enjoy this comforting side dish warm with your favorite meal!

Notes

  • For less grease, be sure to drain the bacon after browning.
  • Bacon drippings are optional but add extra smoky depth.
  • You can adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • Use original or homestyle baked beans depending on your texture preference.
  • Leftovers store well refrigerated for up to 4 days and reheat nicely.
