Ingredients
Bread
- 8 slices Texas toast white bread
Egg Mixture
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Serving
- Syrup, for serving (maple syrup recommended)
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat the Pan: Preheat a large pan or griddle over medium-high heat and spray it lightly with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Cut the Bread: Slice each piece of Texas toast into strips to create the sticks.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a wide bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In another bowl, combine the sugar and ground cinnamon, stirring thoroughly to mix.
- Coat Bread Sticks: Dip each bread strip into the egg mixture, turning to coat every side evenly.
- Dredge in Cinnamon Sugar: Next, toss the egg-coated bread sticks in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
- Cook the Sticks: Place the coated bread sticks on the preheated pan or griddle. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes on one side until lightly browned, then flip and cook the other side for an additional 1 to 2 minutes.
- Serve: Repeat cooking with any remaining sticks. Serve warm with maple syrup or your preferred syrup for dipping.
Notes
- Using Texas toast makes the French toast sticks thick and fluffy, but any thick-sliced white bread will work.
- Adjust the cinnamon sugar ratio to taste if you prefer more or less sweetness or spice.
- Make sure your pan or griddle is adequately preheated to get a nice golden crust on the sticks.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond or oat milk.
- Serve immediately for the best texture; leftover sticks can be reheated in a toaster oven.
