4.4 from 8 reviews

This Bourbon Slush is a refreshing, icy cocktail combining the bold flavors of bourbon, citrus, and black tea with the sweet and tangy punch of lemonade and orange juice concentrate. Perfect for summer gatherings, this frozen drink is easy to prepare and serves 10 people.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes plus freezing time (approx. 4–6 hours)
  • Yield: 10 servings

Ingredients

Liquid Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 12 ounce frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 2 cups bourbon
  • 4 cups black tea, prepared and unsweetened

Dry Ingredients

  • Low or no sugar powdered lemonade mix (enough to make 2 quarts)
  • 3/4 cup sugar or sweetener

Garnish (Optional)

  • Sliced orange
  • Maraschino cherry

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl or container, thoroughly mix the powdered lemonade mix (enough for 2 quarts) with 2 cups of water, the frozen orange juice concentrate, 2 cups bourbon, 4 cups unsweetened black tea, and 3/4 cup sugar or sweetener until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  2. Freeze Mixture: Pour the combined mixture into a freezer-safe container or tray and place it in the freezer. Allow it to freeze until solid, typically for several hours or overnight, to achieve a slushy consistency.
  3. Serve: When ready to serve, scoop about a scant cup of the frozen mixture into a rocks glass. Stir gently to break up the ice a bit and mix the flavors.
  4. Garnish: Add optional garnishes like a slice of orange or a maraschino cherry for a festive touch before serving.

Notes

  • For a less sweet version, reduce the sugar or use a sugar substitute to your preference.
  • Make sure to use unsweetened black tea to control sweetness levels in the cocktail.
  • Allow adequate freezing time to ensure the slush achieves the ideal consistency.
  • Garnishes enhance the presentation but can be omitted if preferred.
