Crisp and golden baked tortilla chips made from fresh corn tortillas, lightly seasoned with olive oil, salt, and a hint of lime juice. This easy and healthier alternative to fried chips is perfect for dipping or snacking.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 12 corn tortillas (5 to 6-inch, yellow or white)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt (plus more to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it is hot and ready for baking the tortilla chips.
  2. Prepare seasoning mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice (if using), and salt to create a flavorful brush-on seasoning.
  3. Brush and cut tortillas: Using a pastry brush, evenly coat both sides of each corn tortilla with the olive oil mixture. Then, cut each tortilla into 4 to 6 triangles using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
  4. Arrange on baking sheets: Spread the tortilla triangles in a single layer on two large baking sheets. It’s acceptable if some of the chips slightly overlap, but try to avoid heavy stacking for even crisping.
  5. Bake the chips: Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven. Bake for 12-14 minutes if using light-colored baking sheets, or 8-11 minutes if using darker colored ones. The chips are done when they become crisp and golden brown.

Notes

  • Keep an eye on the chips as baking times vary depending on the color of your baking sheet.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle additional salt or your favorite seasoning after baking while chips are still warm.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
  • If you prefer spicier chips, add a pinch of chili powder or cayenne pepper to the oil mixture.
