Ingredients
Cheese Mixture
- 6 oz. full fat sour cream
- 4 tablespoons softened butter
- 8 oz. shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Fresh cracked pepper, to taste
Olives
- 7 oz. green olives, drained and sliced
- 6 oz. black olives, drained and sliced
Bread
- 8-10 oz. loaf French bread
Garnish
- Fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the bread mixture.
- Prepare the sour cream mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, softened butter, garlic powder, and a generous pinch of kosher salt and freshly cracked pepper. Stir these ingredients together until the mixture is mostly smooth, ensuring the flavors blend well.
- Add cheese and green onions: Stir the shredded Monterey Jack cheese and thinly sliced green onions into the sour cream mixture until fully incorporated.
- Fold in olives: Gently fold the sliced green and black olives into the cheese mixture, distributing them evenly without breaking them up too much.
- Slice the bread: Cut the French bread loaf in half widthwise, then slice each half in half lengthwise to create four pieces with cut sides facing up for spreading.
- Spread the mixture: Evenly divide and spread the olive and cheese mixture on the cut sides of each piece of bread, covering them completely.
- Bake the bread: Place the prepared bread pieces on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the edges start to turn a golden brown.
- Broil for finish: Switch the oven to broil and cook the bread for an additional 1-2 minutes, carefully watching so the cheese develops a dark golden brown color without burning.
- Serve and garnish: Remove the bread from the oven, slice into servings if desired, garnish with fresh parsley, and enjoy warm.
Notes
- If green or black olives are too salty, rinse them lightly before slicing to reduce saltiness.
- Use full-fat sour cream and cheese for a richer flavor and better melting texture.
- Keep an eye during the broil step as cheese can burn quickly.
- This bread is best served warm right from the oven for optimal taste and texture.
- You can swap Monterey Jack cheese with mozzarella or cheddar for variation.
