A refreshing and vibrant iced beverage combining the sweet natural flavors of fresh watermelon with the earthy, invigorating taste of matcha green tea. Perfect for a quick, healthy summer drink that looks as stunning as it tastes.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings

Ingredients

Watermelon Juice

  • 2 cups (300 grams) cubed fresh watermelon (seeds removed)
  • Ice cubes (as needed)

Matcha Mixture

  • 2 teaspoons matcha (green tea powder)
  • 1/4 cup (60 milliliters) hot water
  • 3/4 cup (177 milliliters) cold water

Garnishes

  • Small watermelon wedges
  • Lemon slices
  • Fresh mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Puree the Watermelon: Place the cubed watermelon in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour the puree evenly into 2-3 glasses until they are halfway filled and add ice cubes to chill.
  2. Prepare the Matcha: In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder with the 1/4 cup hot water vigorously until completely dissolved and a smooth consistency is achieved. This ensures no lumps remain.
  3. Shake the Matcha Mixture: Transfer the dissolved matcha into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, then add the cold water. Shake thoroughly until the mixture is well blended and chilled.
  4. Layer the Drink: Carefully pour the shaken matcha mixture over the watermelon puree in each glass using the back of a spoon to create distinct layering if desired, enhancing visual appeal.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Decorate each glass with small watermelon wedges, lemon slices, and fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh flavors and vibrant presentation.

Notes

  • For best taste, use ripe and sweet watermelon.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding a small amount of honey or sweetener to the watermelon juice if desired.
  • Use a fine sifter or matcha whisk to ensure a smooth matcha mixture free from clumps.
  • Serve immediately as the layers will eventually blend over time.
  • Can be served in tall glasses for a more elegant presentation.
