Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced (¼-inch thick)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
½ cup beef broth
¼ cup milk (optional)
1 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp paprika
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish and thinly slice potatoes.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add ground beef, season with Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper, and cook until browned.
- Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish. Spread half of the beef mixture on top. Sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese.
- Repeat the layers, then pour beef broth (and milk, if using) evenly over the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes.
- Remove foil, top with Parmesan cheese, and bake uncovered for 10 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
- Add heavy cream instead of milk for a richer sauce.
- Swap cheddar for mozzarella, pepper jack, or Colby Jack for different flavors.
- Mix in diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for added veggies.
- Try ground turkey, chicken, or sausage instead of beef.
- Use sweet potatoes for a slightly sweeter variation.
