Ingredients
Steak and Vegetables
- 2 pounds top sirloin, cut into cubes
- 1 large red onion, cut into square pieces
- 2 red bell peppers, cut into square pieces
- 2 yellow squash, sliced into 1/4 inch pieces (preferably uniform in width)
Marinade
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, and black pepper until smooth. This mixture will tenderize and flavor the steak perfectly.
- Marinate the Steak: Pour the marinade over the cubed top sirloin in a bowl. Stir well to ensure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours for deeper flavor penetration.
- Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium temperature to ensure even cooking of the kabobs without burning.
- Assemble the Skewers: Thread the skewers by alternating pieces of marinated steak and vegetables—start with a piece of meat, then vegetables, followed by another piece of meat, continuing this pattern. Each skewer will hold about 5 pieces of meat and four sets of vegetables, resulting in approximately 10 skewers total.
- Grill the Kabobs: Place the assembled skewers on the preheated grill. Grill each side for about 6 minutes, using metal tongs to carefully flip the skewers to achieve even cooking and a nice char.
- Serve: Once cooked to your preferred doneness, remove the kabobs from the grill. Serve immediately and enjoy the smoky, juicy flavors with your favorite sides.
Notes
- For best results, use metal skewers as they conduct heat evenly, helping the steak cook from the inside as well.
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before grilling to prevent burning.
- Adjust grilling time based on steak cube size and grill heat intensity.
- These kabobs pair well with rice, grilled bread, or a fresh green salad.
- Marinating overnight enhances flavor but a minimum of 1 hour is sufficient for tenderizing.
