Ingredients
Spice Mix
- 3 teaspoons salt (or more to taste)
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons paprika
Main Ingredients
- 2 pounds cubed steak (like sirloin, NY Strip)
- 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes (peeled and cubed into small bite-sized pieces)
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon browning sauce (optional, for color)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 tablespoons parsley (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- parsley (for garnish)
- red pepper flakes (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Mix: In a small bowl, combine the salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Divide the mixture evenly into two equal portions and set one aside for later use.
- Make Garlic Herb Butter: In another small bowl, mix the softened butter with the minced garlic and chopped parsley until well combined. Set aside.
- Season the Steak: In a large bowl, combine the cubed steak with Worcestershire sauce, optional browning sauce, and half of the prepared spice mix. Toss thoroughly to ensure all sides are evenly coated with the seasoning.
- Parboil Potatoes: Boil a pot of water and add the cubed Yukon gold potatoes. Parboil for 5 to 6 minutes until the potatoes begin to soften but are not fully cooked. Drain and let them cool slightly.
- Season Potatoes: Once cooled, toss the parboiled potatoes with the remaining half of the spice mix, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and 1 teaspoon salt until thoroughly coated.
- Sear the Steak: Heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned steak and sear for 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Potatoes: Using the same skillet, add the seasoned parboiled potatoes. Cook over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are golden brown and fork-tender.
- Combine Steak, Potatoes, and Butter: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the potatoes. Add the garlic herb butter and toss everything together gently, allowing the steak and potatoes to soak up all the buttery garlic flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle with fresh parsley and red pepper flakes to taste. Serve hot and enjoy your flavorful garlic butter steak and potatoes.
Notes
- Parboiling the potatoes ensures they cook evenly and become tender without breaking apart during the skillet cooking.
- Browning sauce is optional and adds a deeper color and flavor to the steak but can be omitted if unavailable.
- You can adjust the amount of salt and red pepper flakes to suit your taste preferences.
- Use a heavy-bottomed skillet or cast iron pan for better heat retention and browning.
- For a gluten-free version, confirm Worcestershire sauce and browning sauce are gluten-free or replace accordingly.
