French toast rolls are a playful twist on the classic breakfast dish, turning slices of bread into golden, bite-sized rolls coated in cinnamon sugar. They’re creamy on the inside, crisp on the outside, and perfect for brunch, snacks, or dessert. Quick to prepare, customizable with different fillings, and delicious served warm or reheated.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 rolls

Ingredients

For the rolls:

Sliced white bread, crusts removed

1 egg

2 tablespoons milk

2 tablespoons heavy cream

1 tablespoon butter (for cooking)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the coating:

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Flatten the slices of bread with a rolling pin.
  2. Roll each slice tightly into a small cylinder.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together egg, milk, cream, and vanilla extract.
  4. Dip the bread rolls into the egg mixture until coated.
  5. Heat a skillet with butter over medium heat and cook the rolls on all sides until golden brown.
  6. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  7. Roll the warm cooked rolls in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  8. Serve immediately with coffee or tea.

Notes

  • Spread Nutella, jam, or peanut butter inside the bread before rolling for added flavor.
  • Add orange or lemon zest to the egg mixture for a citrusy twist.
  • Swap cinnamon sugar for cocoa powder or shredded coconut.
  • Serve with whipped cream, fresh fruit, or ice cream for a dessert version.
  • For baking instead of frying, bake at 350°F (180°C) for about 10 minutes.
