Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 cup long grain rice (Do not use instant rice as the texture will be overcooked and mushy)
- 10.5 ounces (1 canned) French onion soup (undiluted, Campbell’s brand or generic)
- 1¼ cup (10 ounces) beef broth
- 8 tablespoons salted butter (sliced into 1 tablespoon pats)
- 1 teaspoon roughly chopped fresh parsley (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and lightly spray an 8×8 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Rinse Rice: Place the long grain rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear, removing excess starch for fluffier rice.
- Combine Ingredients: In the prepared baking dish, stir together the rinsed rice, undiluted French onion soup, and beef broth until just combined.
- Add Butter: Arrange the slices of salted butter evenly on top of the rice mixture, adding richness and flavor to the dish.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, allowing the rice to absorb the liquids and begin cooking.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and the liquid is completely absorbed; 15 minutes uncovered usually works, but oven times may vary slightly.
- Finish and Serve: Fluff the cooked rice gently with a fork, garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot as a flavorful side dish.

- Rinsing rice helps remove excess starch, resulting in fluffier rice.
- Use undiluted canned French onion soup for maximum flavor.
- Butter adds richness and enhances the overall taste of the rice.
- Cooking times may vary depending on your oven; check rice doneness before serving.
