4.1 from 6 reviews

A refreshing and invigorating Espresso Tonic combines the rich boldness of freshly brewed espresso with the crisp, fizzy bite of tonic water. Served over ice and garnished with citrus or fresh herbs, this cocktail-style beverage is perfect for a quick pick-me-up or an elegant coffee-based refreshment.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

Espresso Tonic Ingredients

  • 2 oz freshly brewed espresso (preferably from Arabica beans)
  • 4-6 oz tonic water or light/diet tonic water
  • Ice cubes (enough to fill the glass)
  • Lime wedge, fresh herbs, or other optional garnishes (such as lemon or orange wedge)

Instructions

  1. Brew the Espresso: Prepare a double shot of espresso using freshly ground Arabica beans. Make sure it is hot and freshly brewed for the best flavor.
  2. Fill Glass with Ice: While the espresso is brewing, fill your serving glass to the top with ice cubes to chill the drink effectively.
  3. Add Tonic Water: Slowly pour 4 to 6 ounces of tonic water over the ice, stopping when the glass is about 3/4 full to maintain the fizz and balance the drink.
  4. Combine Espresso and Tonic: Gently pour the freshly brewed espresso over the ice and tonic mixture. Stir lightly to blend the flavors without losing too much carbonation.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Add a garnish such as a wedge of lime, lemon, or orange, or fresh herbs for an aromatic touch. Top off with additional tonic water if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing espresso tonic.

Notes

  • Use freshly brewed espresso for the best taste and aroma.
  • You can adjust the amount of tonic water depending on your preference for strength and sweetness.
  • Light or diet tonic water is a great option to reduce calories and sugar.
  • The drink is best served immediately to enjoy the tonic’s fizz.
  • Optional garnishes like fresh herbs (mint or rosemary) add a unique flavor dimension.
