Ingredients

8 slices white bread, crusts removed

8 slices sharp cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack, Colby, or Swiss

Melted butter, as needed for brushing or coating

Instructions

  1. Use a rolling pin to flatten each slice of bread.
  2. Place one slice of cheese (or 2–3 tablespoons of shredded cheese) on top of each piece of bread.
  3. Roll the bread up tightly around the cheese and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Brush the outside of each roll with melted butter, or quickly roll each in the butter.
  5. Heat a skillet over medium heat and place roll ups seam-side down.
  6. Cook, turning with tongs, until all sides are golden brown and cheese is melted.
  7. Remove toothpicks once roll ups are sealed and serve hot.

  • Use fresh, soft bread to prevent cracking while rolling.
  • Try different cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or pepper jack for variety.
