Ingredients
8 slices white bread, crusts removed
8 slices sharp cheddar cheese or Monterey Jack, Colby, or Swiss
Melted butter, as needed for brushing or coating
Instructions
- Use a rolling pin to flatten each slice of bread.
- Place one slice of cheese (or 2–3 tablespoons of shredded cheese) on top of each piece of bread.
- Roll the bread up tightly around the cheese and secure with a toothpick.
- Brush the outside of each roll with melted butter, or quickly roll each in the butter.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and place roll ups seam-side down.
- Cook, turning with tongs, until all sides are golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Remove toothpicks once roll ups are sealed and serve hot.
Notes
- Use fresh, soft bread to prevent cracking while rolling.
- Try different cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or pepper jack for variety.
- Reheat in a skillet or air fryer to maintain crispiness—avoid microwaving.
- To make ahead, assemble and refrigerate until ready to cook.
- Can be frozen before cooking for up to 1 month; cook from frozen.
