This Easy Caprese Tomato Tulips Bouquet is a visually stunning and delicious appetizer perfect for springtime celebrations like Easter or Mother’s Day brunch. Combining fresh roma tomatoes, mozzarella balls, basil, and scallions, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze, this no-cook recipe doubles as an edible floral centerpiece that will impress guests with its vibrant presentation and fresh Italian flavors.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 6-12 tomato tulips, serves approximately 6-8 people as an appetizer

Ingredients

Tomato Tulips

  • 6-12 roma tomatoes
  • 24 mozzarella cheese balls
  • 1 bunch of scallions (green onions)
  • Fresh basil leaves, enough for layering along stems

Seasoning & Dressing

  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Extra virgin olive oil, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Core and slit the tomatoes: Remove the core from each roma tomato, then cut 3-4 slits along the sides of each tomato without cutting all the way through the bottom, creating a tulip shape.
  2. Prepare the mozzarella: Lightly pat the mozzarella balls dry to remove excess moisture, then place them in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Stuff the tomatoes: Insert two mozzarella balls into each slit tomato, filling the openings to resemble tulip petals stuffed with cheese.
  4. Prepare the serving base: Lay down a piece of brown parchment paper on your serving tray, platter, or board, and arrange the bunch of scallions on top with about half to three-quarters of their length extending beyond the edge of the parchment paper to act as stems.
  5. Assemble the bouquet: Place the stuffed tomatoes strategically at the ends of the scallions to mimic tulip flowers. Layer fresh basil leaves along the scallion stems in small bunches to resemble leaves.
  6. Dress the bouquet: Drizzle extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze evenly over the tomato tulips and along the stems and leaves for flavor and stunning presentation.
  7. Finish the arrangement: Fold the ends of the parchment paper around the stems to replicate a flower bouquet aesthetic. Use tongs to serve the tulip bouquet elegantly.

Notes

  • Patting the mozzarella dry is important to prevent excess moisture and sogginess.
  • Drizzle balsamic glaze just before serving to avoid dripping and maintain clean presentation.
  • For a creative touch, you can also make decorative designs with olive oil and balsamic glaze directly on your serving platter.
  • This dish requires no cooking and is best served fresh as a cold appetizer or garnish.
