Ingredients
Pastry and Butter Mixture
- 1 sheet puff pastry (defrosted but still cold)
- 4 tbsp butter
- 3 large garlic cloves (minced)
- 1/2 tsp dried Italian seasoning
Herbs and Cheese
- 1 tbsp minced fresh parsley and basil
- 1 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella, gouda, or any preferred cheese)
- 1 tbsp parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it is hot when you place the rolls in for baking.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Lay your defrosted but still cold puff pastry flat on a clean surface. Use a damp finger to smooth out any seams to create an even surface. Transfer the dough to a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Make Garlic Butter: In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low-medium heat. Once melted, add the minced garlic and dried Italian seasoning. Cook gently for 1-2 minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant but does not brown. Remove from heat. Using a pastry brush, spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the surface of the puff pastry. Then sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top of the buttered dough.
- Roll and Slice: Carefully roll the puff pastry into a log shape. Slice the rolled dough into 3/4 inch thick pieces, making about 10 slices. Arrange these slices spaced apart on the prepared cookie sheet. Brush each slice with any remaining garlic butter, then sprinkle with the fresh parsley and basil, followed by a dusting of parmesan cheese.
- Chill and Bake: Refrigerate the prepared rolls for 10-15 minutes to keep the dough cold, which helps with puffing during baking. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the rolls are puffed up and golden brown.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve the cheesy garlic butter rolls warm or at room temperature alongside marinara sauce or enjoy plain.
Notes
- Ensure the puff pastry is cold before baking to achieve a flaky texture.
- You can customize the shredded cheese based on your taste preference.
- Do not overcook the garlic in the butter to avoid bitterness.
- If you want extra flavor, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes before baking.
- These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in a low oven for crispiness.
