Ingredients
1 cup dry white wine
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour or cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 pound shredded Swiss cheese
1/2 pound shredded Gruyère cheese
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 (1 pound) loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
Instructions
- Bring the white wine to a simmer in a fondue pot over medium-low heat.
- Stir in the flour and ground nutmeg until well combined.
- Add shredded Swiss and Gruyère cheeses in batches (about 1/4 pound at a time), stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
- Season with salt.
- Serve hot with cubed French bread for dipping.
Notes
- If the fondue becomes too thick, add a bit more wine to adjust the consistency.
- For a smoother texture, toss the cheese with the flour before adding to the pot.
- Try rubbing the pot with a garlic clove before adding ingredients for added flavor.
- Other great dippers include apples, bell peppers, baby potatoes, and cooked meats.
