Ingredients
4 tbsp lightly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
6 tbsp water
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 double shots of espresso (about 1/2 cup strong coffee)
A mason jar or cocktail shaker with a few ice cubes
2 glasses filled halfway with ice
Oat milk (to top up each glass)
Instructions
- In a small frying pan or pot, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, water, and vanilla extract. Heat on medium-high, whisking until combined.
- When the mixture begins to simmer, reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sugar dissolves and the syrup slightly thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Brew two double shots of espresso (or about 1/2 cup strong coffee).
- Add espresso to a mason jar with 3 tablespoons of syrup and a few ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 1–2 minutes until frothy and chilled.
- Add ice to two serving glasses. Divide the shaken espresso mixture evenly between them.
- Top each glass with oat milk, stir gently, and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover brown sugar syrup in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Shake or stir syrup before using as it may settle.
- Use almond, soy, or coconut milk for variations.
- Prepared lattes are best consumed immediately.
- Do not reheat — this drink is meant to be served iced.
