Ingredients
Banana Donut Holes
- 1/2 cup Banana (1 large ripe banana)
- 3/4 cup Self-Rising Flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/4 cup Unrefined Sugar
- 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (melted, or melted vegan butter)
- 2-3 tablespoons Self-Rising Flour (optional, for adjusting dough consistency)
- Additional 2-3 teaspoons Melted Coconut Oil (for greasing hands and brushing donut holes)
- Avocado Oil Spray (for air fryer basket and donut holes)
Instructions
- Mash the Banana: Peel and mash the banana until smooth, measuring out 1/2 cup of the puree to ensure the correct moisture ratio for the dough.
- Combine with Flour: Add the self-rising flour to the banana puree and stir with a rubber spatula until lumps start forming. Oil your hands with melted coconut oil and knead the mixture into a sticky, moist dough ball. If too wet, gradually add up to 2-3 tablespoons of self-rising flour, but avoid adding too much to keep the dough soft and elastic.
- Shape Donut Holes: Grease your hands with melted coconut oil, pinch off about a tablespoon of dough, and roll it into a ball. Place each ball onto a parchment-paper-lined plate. Repeat until all dough is used. Lightly spray avocado oil over the dough balls.
- Prepare Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket with avocado oil to prevent sticking. Arrange the donut holes in the basket spaced about 1 inch (3 cm) apart for proper expansion.
- Air Fry: Cook at 350°F (180°C) for 6-7 minutes, or until the donut holes puff up and turn golden brown on the outside. They may have a rough texture and irregular shapes, which is normal.
- Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: While still warm, brush each donut hole with melted coconut oil using a pastry brush. Then roll them evenly in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar to create a delicious sweet coating.
- Serve: Enjoy the banana donut holes warm immediately for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Use ripe bananas for sweeter and more flavorful donut holes.
- Do not over-add flour as it alters the texture; the dough should be moist and elastic, not dry or dense.
- Spacing the donut holes in the air fryer basket is important for even cooking and expansion.
- You can substitute avocado oil spray with any high-heat oil spray for air frying.
- These donut holes are best eaten fresh and warm as they can dry out upon cooling.
- For added flavor, experiment with nutmeg or vanilla extract in the dough.
