This Apple Pie Dip is a luscious, crowd-pleasing dessert dip that combines tender cinnamon-spiced apples with a creamy, fluffy cream cheese layer. Perfect for parties or family gatherings, it pairs wonderfully with graham crackers, cookies, or pretzels for a delightful sweet and salty treat.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Apple Pie Filling

  • 3-4 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • Juice from ½ lemon
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 4 oz Cool Whip
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Make the apple pie filling: In a large bowl, toss the chopped Granny Smith apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon until the apples are evenly coated. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add the apple mixture along with a splash of water. Stir well, bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to let it simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes, or until the apples become soft and tender.
  2. Thicken the filling: Scoop out a few tablespoons of liquid from the pan and mix it with the cornstarch until smooth. Pour this cornstarch mixture back into the pan and cook for another 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. Remove the pan from heat and allow the filling to cool completely.
  3. Prepare the cream cheese layer: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese using an electric mixer until it is smooth and creamy. Add the Cool Whip, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla extract, then continue mixing until the combination is fluffy and well blended.
  4. Assemble the dip: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into your serving dish. Then, spoon the completely cooled apple pie filling over the top of the cream cheese layer, distributing it evenly.
  5. Serve and enjoy: You can serve the dip immediately or refrigerate it until ready to serve. Pair the dip with graham crackers, cookies, or pretzels for a delicious combination of sweet and salty flavors.

Notes

  • For a smoother apple filling, you can mash some of the cooked apples before thickening.
  • Make sure cream cheese is at room temperature to achieve a smooth cream cheese layer without lumps.
  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best balance of sweetness and acidity.
  • Chill the dip for at least 1 hour if you prefer it cold; it also allows flavors to meld together nicely.
  • This dip can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
